Comments needed for the Sandpiper Pipeline Project in MN

There are several ways to be part of these public hearings for "the Matter of the Application of North Dakota Pipeline Company LLC for a Certificate of Need for the Sandpiper Pipeline Project in Minnesota."

Project Description

North Dakota Pipeline Company LLC (NDPC) proposes to build a crude oil pipeline:

 

  • Approximately 616 miles long, from Tioga, North Dakota to Superior, Wisconsin
  • Approximately 302 miles of the new pipeline would be located in Minnesota
  • With a 24 inch diameter and a 225,000 barrels per day (bpd) capacity from North Dakota to Clearbrook, Minnesota
  • With a 30 inch diameter and a 375,000 barrels per day (bpd) capacity from Clearbrook, Minnesota to Superior, Wisconsin
  • With approximately 25 to 50 feet of new right-of-way and 40 to 70 feet of temporary right of-way

The proposed project includes a new terminal facility near the existing terminal in Clearbrook, Minnesota.

The proposed project would be located in Aitkin, Carlton, Cass, Clearwater, Crow Wing, Hubbard, Polk, Red Lake, and Wadena counties. 

Topics to consider:

  • Sandpiper will help alleviate rail and highway congestion by transporting increased oil supplies via pipelines.
  • Sandpiper will create 1,500 good-paying jobs and spur economic investment in Minnesota.
  • Sandpiper will increase our nation's energy independence and improve our energy security.

Sandpiper will increase property tax revenue in every county it crosses, adding tax revenue for rural counties that do not have strong business-tax bases.

 The MPUC's public comment period for Sandpiper will remain open through January 23, 2015, at 4:30 p.m. (comments must be received by 4:30 p.m. and will not be accepted if received after that time).
