Volunteer Ironworkers from Local 512 Set Up Bentleyville Christmas Tree in Duluth

On Saturday, October 13, 2018, volunteers from Iron Workers Local 512 participated in setting up the iron frame for the 128-foot tall Bentleyville Christmas tree in Duluth’s Bayfront Festival Park. Since 2010, volunteers from Local 512 have erected and taken down the massive Christmas tree – the dazzling centerpiece of the Bentleyville “Tour of Lights” holiday event. Read more »

Upcoming Construct Tomorrow events

Construct Tomorrow offers high school students a hands-on opportunity to learn about apprenticeships in the construction trades. Organizers kicked-off the 2018-2019 school year in October 2018 with events in Eveleth, Fairmont and St. Paul. Construct Tomorrow is a partnership of the Minnesota building and construction trades
apprenticeship programs, industry leaders, educators, employers, and government agencies. Since 2013, over 60,000 students have attended Construct Tomorrow events throughout Minnesota.

54th Minnesota AFL-CIO Convention Celebrates Union Victories in Difficult Times

Workers from across the state were gathered in Minneapolis for the biennial convention of the Minnesota AFL-CIO, the labor federation of some 1,000 local unions representing 300,000 members. Delegates voted on leadership for the federation, celebrated successful organizing programs and heard from a variety of speakers including Governor Mark Dayton and Senator Amy Klobuchar. Read more »

New Report: Minnesota’s Construction Industry Pulls Ahead of Wisconsin’s

A new report by North Star Policy Institute finds that Minnesota’s construction industry has pulled ahead of Wisconsin’s since the Great Recession, fueled by a strong recovery that has boosted both employment and average worker pay. Minnesota surpassed Wisconsin in total construction employment, while construction industry wage growth in Minnesota has far outpaced that of Wisconsin since 2010. Read more »
