Republican members of the Wisc. legislature were in DC last week to schmooze with K Street lobbyists at the BGR group and collect some big corporate checks. But supporters of workers' right showed up to let them know what DC workers think about their attacks on the middle-class.

Why Fox Is Banned in Canada

There is no Fox in Canada.  Canada does not have anything like Fox, spreading disinformation, Republican propaganda, and outright lies to confuse the electorate into voting against their self interest.  Canada has the good sense to ban outlets like Fox.

STATE BUILDING TRADE COUNCIL SPONSORING OSHA 500 CLASS

Participants who complete the training will receive:

  • OSHA 500 Completion Certificate from the National Resource Center.
  • Authorization to teach the 10 hour and 30 hour Construction Safety Classes often referred to as the OSHA 10 and 30 hour courses.
  • Authorization to teach the OSHA 7600 Disaster Site Worker Course

John Wooden on Leadership

Legendary basketball coach John Wooden wrote and taught on the subject of leadership all his adult life. While Mr. Wooden is remembered most often for his NCAA basketball championships, he taught all those around him about the significance of leadership. May 1933: Hitler Abolishes Unions

On May 2nd, 1933, the day after Labor day, Nazi groups occupied union halls and labor leaders were arrested.  Trade Unions were outlawed by Adolf Hitler, while collective bargaining and the right to strike was abolished. This was the beginning of a consolidation of power by the fascist.

Right to Work: Representation Without Taxation

Part of Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker's union-busting agenda is including a "right to work" rule for public-sector employees. Several other Republican governors are considering similar measures for both the public and private sectors. Insofar as they succeed, these right-to-work measures will seriously weaken the bargaining power of workers.

Melander among those appointed to Met Council

Four union members, including President Harry Melander,  are among 16 appointments by Governor Mark Dayton to the Metropolitan Council, the governor’s office announced Wednesday.

The Met Council oversees many important public services in the seven-county metropolitan area, including wastewater treatment, the bus system, affordable housing and regional planning. Council members serve at the pleasure of the governor and make governing decisions for the council.

Steamfitters Pipefitters Local 455 buys Hillcrest Golf Club for $4.3M

Reprinted from the StarTribune.com:  A local pipefitters union has snapped up the old Hillcrest Golf Club in St. Paul, paying $4.3 million for the private club and vowing to keep it private for at least two years. The union said it hopes to breathe new life into the business, which has been in the red with sliding membership.
